Sponsored by ECN Canada, the triple TOF spectrometer is boosting the productivity of 57357’s proteomics lab

The triple TOF spectrometer device is the first of its kind in Egypt that is a novel technology designed to deliver high-performance qualitative and quantitative analyses of molecules of different matters across a wide range of application areas. Proteomics is a large-scale study of proteomes that is a set of proteins produced in an organism, system, or biological context.

‘The triple TOF has a profound significance that is derived from the unique ability to accurately analyze a limitless number of unknown challenging compounds unlike the previous devices ‘said Sebaey Mohamed, proteomics lab manager at Children’s Cancer Hospital Egypt 57357.

The device has been boosting the proteomics lab productivity since its usage has extended to include different fields besides its original function in the lab. All analysis requests from outside the hospital that are carried out in the proteomics lab eventually contribute to the treatment of the hospital’s patients with cancer. Within the field of the food industries, this device can be used to measure proteins in a given sample as well as the detection of commercial fraud.

Within the pharmaceutical field, it can be used to measure the efficacy of a drug and the detection of the active constituents in each drug.  the Triple TOF mass spectrometer can be used in phytochemical research (which refers to the extraction, screening, and identification of the medicinally active substances found in plants) to discover new treatments of natural origin. On the other hand, it is considered an essential analytical tool in the field of biological research and can be used to characterize a wide variety of biomolecules such as protein components of snake or scorpion venom for the proposes of manufacturing the proper antidote.

It is noteworthy that the unit has been established in 2017 and is primarily focused on the tumor-associated changes in the proteomes and metabolomes.
